What does "background checked" mean?

From various state agencies, millions of public records are accumulated and combined into one massive database. This database can be searched for criminal records with an employee's name and date of birth.

What are the costs for background checks and Membership?

The current promotional cost is $9.95 per employee. As a Member of Best Business Choices, you continue to receive this discounted price for any future employee background checks. The regular price is $29.95.

What's included in a background check?

Our nationwide database contains approximately 1 billion records. Depending on the state agency, results may include misdemeanors, felonies, DWI and other offenses.

A Social Security Verification is also optional.

If an employee has a record, is that business allowed Membership?

If there are records found relating to assault, robbery, theft, drugs, embezzlement, and/or sex offenses, that business will not be considered for our website. Age and severity of negative results will also be considered, when determining Membership qualification. Our first priority is the quality of our Memberships, not the quantity.

How long does the processes for Membership take?

Although turn-around time is our priority, the complete process can take up to 2 weeks.

Are your records official?

No, almost every state strictly prohibits "official" criminal records from being disseminated to anyone other than state law enforcement agencies. However, BBC has the most comprehensive criminal records on the internet.

Are background checks 100% accurate?

We rely on many state agencies to provide us with accurate data. Although rare, database maintenance from a source can be processed poorly and entered incorrectly, beyond our control. Therefore, information we derive from these sources can have errors and will not always be 100% accurate or complete.

How often are employees background checked?

All employees are background checked upon initial sign-up. If the business is approved for Membership, it is required to have all employees re-checked a minimum of every two years. Any new employees hired after the initial sign-up must also be background checked.

How is The Best Business Choices website promoted or advertised?

Our Members will have exposure to homeowners, Property Management, Homeowners Associations and advertising media via the Internet. Brochures and direct contact are also included. Our new website concept has been well received by all parties.

After paying for the background checks and the annual membership, can I get a refund?

Due to costs for the data and labor, no refunds are provided for the background checks. However, the Annual Membership Fee is refundable if your Membership is denied.

Why were there no records found, when I know this person has been arrested?

Each state has its own records availability for public access. In some cases, only felonies and more serious misdemeanors are searched. Please read our search descriptions to verify fitness. Also, most states seal juvenile records and some may purge older records. All databases searched rely on criminal justice agencies to submit records accurately and completely, this process can also fail. We can not control these various factors and therefore do not guarantee 100% accuracy.

Do you guarantee the performance of the businesses on your website?

Unfortunately, we can't. Even an employee with good character and a clean record may perform non-standard results. BBC also is unable to guarantee a company's complete disclosure of employees. However, if BBC discovers any discrepancy with employee information, then membership to that business would be terminated.

Do you guarantee that the businesses on your website are safe?

BBC cannot guarantee against first time offenders or the possibility that a criminal record was expunged or not found. We do believe that background checks significantly encourage a safer environment between businesses and homeowners.
